Biography

Samuel Brannan (1819–1889) rose to prominence as an early Mormon convert, publisher, and California pioneer who helped ignite the Gold Rush and chart a course for San Francisco’s civic life.

Even after his adventurous years in the West, he remained grateful for the friends who supported him, and his presence is still acknowledged by those visiting Mount Hope Cemetery today.
