Samuel Cunard assembled the fleet of the Cunard Line, creating the first reliable transatlantic steamship service and making voyages between Liverpool and North America safe and swift.
He invested in technology, insisted on disciplined crews, and supported hospitals and sailors’ lodgings so that the advances of regular steam travel would arrive alongside lasting care.
