Biography
Samuel Lilly devoted his career to the service of New Jersey and the nation, representing his home state in the United States Congress during the tumultuous years leading up to the Civil War. His clear judgment as a lawyer and legislator helped him guide important debates in the House, while his deep interest in the well-being of ordinary citizens earned him respect across party lines.
