Biography

Samuel Montagu, 1st Baron Swaythling, was a banker, philanthropist, and reform-minded politician whose leadership brought financial acumen to the Liberal cause. A champion of Jewish welfare, he co-founded the Federation of Synagogues and worked tirelessly to promote education, charity, and civic responsibility within the community.

As a peer and public servant, he balanced the duties of the House of Commons and later the House of Lords with a compassionate eye toward the vulnerable, earning respect across political lines before his interment at Edmonton Federation of Synagogues Cemetery.
