Biography
Samuel Oughton devoted his life to missionary work in Jamaica, standing alongside emancipated communities and advocating for education, justice, and temperance. As a Baptist minister he defended the rights of the newly freed, urging Parliament to honor promises of equality and opportunity.
He was respected not only for his courage in the pulpit but also for a tender empathy that drew people to him, supporting them through hardships with steadfast faith. Abney Park bears witness to the enduring hope he nurtured in distant lands and close to home.
