Biography
Samuel Pickworth Woodward was a respected geologist whose scientific work advanced the understanding of earth sciences during the Victorian era. Born in 1821, he pursued a career in geological study during a period of rapid expansion in scientific knowledge and methodology.
Woodward's contributions to geology reflected the nineteenth-century passion for systematic study and classification of natural phenomena. He died in 1865 at the age of forty-four and was buried in Highgate Cemetery, where many of the era's most distinguished scientists and scholars found their final rest, acknowledging his contributions to scientific knowledge.
