Biography

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, born in 1772, was a towering figure of the Romantic movement, whose poetry and prose explored the mysteries of imagination and conscience. He forged deep friendships with fellow writers and was always in search of a faithful expression of the emotions that shape human experience.

In later years he continued to teach and to offer counsel to pupils and readers, eager that the power of language should serve the common good; his final resting place at the Church of St Michael is a place of pilgrimage for those who cherish his verses.
