Biography

Samuel W. Crawford, Jr. trained as a surgeon before the Civil War and served with valor as both medical officer and, later, general in the Union Army, fighting in the Peninsula Campaign, Gettysburg, and the overland battles.

After the conflict he returned to Philadelphia to continue his medical practice and to care for fellow veterans, and the city remembers him at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
