Biography

Samuel Wilson Parr combined practical chemistry with educational devotion, passing along knowledge to countless students while also advancing industrial studies. He authored textbooks, improved laboratory instruction, and helped align chemical science with the needs of manufacturers and educators.

He believed that a well-taught classroom could spark discoveries and that chemistry should be used to achieve the common good, principles that made him beloved by both peers and pupils. Parr's legacy is honored at Mount Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum by those who continue to draw inspiration from his life in the laboratory and the lecture hall.
