Biography

Samuel Yorke Atlee, born in 1809, witnessed the early growth of the District of Columbia and devoted himself to preserving the sense of community that sustained generations before him.

Even as the nation reorganized itself around him, he remained a steadfast friend and neighbor, and his memory is honored among those who visit Congressional Cemetery to remember his thoughtful steadiness.
