San'yūtei Enshō II

Biography

San'yūtei Enshō II was a celebrated rakugoka, or traditional storyteller, of the late Edo period. As a master of rakugo—the classical Japanese art of comic monologue and narrative—he entertained audiences with his wit, skill, and artistic mastery. His performances represented an important cultural tradition that had flourished for centuries in Japanese society.

Enshō II was interred at Zenshō-an Temple, a fitting resting place for an artist devoted to the classical traditions of Japanese performance. His contributions to rakugo and popular entertainment left a lasting impact on Japanese cultural life during the final decades of the Edo period.
