Biography
Sarah Emma Edmonds served as a nurse and hospital aide during the Civil War, often under the name of Franklin Thompson, when her courage and dedication helped ease the suffering of wounded soldiers.
After the war she recounted her adventures in memoirs that inspired others, and she spent later years in Houston surrounded by friends grateful for her compassion in times of trial.
