Sarah Montgomery Ruffner, born in 1857, brought kindness and thoughtful care to the circles of friends who gathered along the banks of the river that gave her hometown its name. Her gentle generosity was reflected in the comfort she offered during difficult times and the laughter she shared with neighbors.

After her death in 1917, those who loved her recalled how she had kept hope alive in their midst, and she now rests at Riverside Cemetery, a quiet reflection of the life she lived.
