Biography

Scott Shipp spent his adult life in steadfast service to the Virginia Military Institute. After working alongside cadets as an instructor, he returned to lead the institute and guided it through the postwar years, instilling discipline, honor, and a devotion to duty in generations of young men.

He remained a respected presence in Lexington and the surrounding region until his passing in 1917, and the cadets and faculty who followed kept his memory alive through their daily devotion to the values he championed.
