Biography
Selah R. Hobbie, a New Yorker born in 1797, began as a town clerk and sheriff and grew into a reliable public servant whose integrity made him a natural choice for national office.
He served New York in Congress and later oversaw Indian affairs for the government, always bringing close attention to infrastructure and postal service so that citizens across the nation might flourish; he died in 1854.
