Sergei Bortkiewicz

Biography
Sergei Bortkiewicz, the Ukrainian-born pianist and composer, was drawn to Vienna's salons and concert halls after completing his conservatory training, and his lush late-Romantic style offered audiences warmth in an era of political uncertainty.
Even after fleeing revolution and hardship, he remained faithful to his lyric voice, writing piano cycles and orchestral works that recalled the cities he cherished while keeping alive a community of fellow émigré musicians.
