Biography

Sergei Lyapunov was a Russian composer and pianist whose studies in Saint Petersburg led him to expand the Romantic piano tradition with virtuosic works inspired by Slavic folklore. His symphonic poems and orchestral pieces blended lyricism with bold orchestral color, earning the admiration of Parisian audiences.

During his later years in Paris he continued to teach and publish, nurturing young musicians while remaining true to the melodic and national themes that defined his oeuvre, and he now rests at Batignolles Cemetery.
