Biography

Seth Green, born in 1817, was a pioneering fish culturist whose innovations in stocking trout raised the profile of the pastime and provided fresh fish to a growing nation. He opened one of the first hatcheries and shared his knowledge widely, ensuring fisheries science advanced beyond the immediate needs of sport.

He died in 1888 and was interred at Mount Hope Cemetery, where his legacy continues to ripple through the streams and lakes that still benefit from his early advocacy for sustainable fisheries.
