Sherman Otis Houghton

Biography

Sherman Otis Houghton, born in 1828, answered the call to public service with tireless energy, working to build fairer institutions and improve daily life as Los Angeles grew from frontier town to regional center.

He remained a mentor and friend to many, and after his death in 1914 he was interred at Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery, where the care with which he served others is still honored.
