Simon Bolivar Buckner

Biography

Simon Bolivar Buckner (1823–1914) distinguished himself through both military and political service, rising to prominence as a Civil War general before serving Kentucky as governor and later as a U.S. senator. His commitment to reconciliation and to the people of his state guided decisions that sought unity after a difficult chapter in American history.

He was laid to rest at Frankfort Cemetery, where visitors pay tribute to a statesman who worked to shape Kentucky's place in the nation.
