Biography
Born in 1867, Sir Hedworth Williamson, 9th Baronet, took seriously the responsibilities of his title, tending Whitburn's estate with a generous eye for progress while remaining faithful to the traditions of St Mary's Church; he also took part in local councils to keep the parish connected to the wider region.
He encouraged agricultural improvement, civic education, and the upkeep of the parish from which he drew strength. When he died in 1942 his parishioners memorialized him within the walls of St Mary's as a steadfast guardian of their community.
