Sir Montague Cholmeley, 1st Baronet

1772–1831 (age 59)

Biography

Sir Montague Cholmeley, born in 1772, rose to prominence as a Member of Parliament for Grantham where he balanced national responsibility with a careful attention to the needs of Lincolnshire; his measured speeches and respect for constitutional principle earned him a baronetcy in 1806 and the admiration of colleagues on both sides of the House.

He advocated for the improvement of local infrastructure, sheltered apprenticeships for youth, and, even after leaving Parliament, remained a loyal steward of his community until his death in 1831 when he was laid to rest at St Mary and St Andrew in Stoke Rochford.
