Biography

Sir William Dolben, 3rd Baronet, represented Finedon in Parliament for many years, where he became known for his calm, reforming influence and his advocacy for more humane treatment of those suffering in distant servitude, notably contributing to the passing of legislation that checked abuses upon the high seas.

He returned often to Finedon to oversee local affairs and died in 1814 as a public servant remembered for balancing prudence with compassion.
