Slingsby Duncombe

Biography

Slingsby Duncombe was a gentleman of the nineteenth century whose life was rooted in the Yorkshire community. Born in 1779, he was a figure of local importance and standing, connected to the Copgrove area where he spent much of his life and where he was ultimately laid to rest.

Duncombe's life reflected the values and pursuits of the English gentry of his period. Though details of his specific accomplishments may be modest, his presence in the historical record attests to his place within his community. He lived until 1851, a substantial span of years during which he witnessed considerable changes in English society.
