Biography
Sophia Hawthorne, née Peabody, was a gifted artist and writer whose delicate watercolors and reflective journals documented the natural world and the daily lives of her family. Throughout her life she maintained a steady correspondence with friends across the Atlantic, sharing sketches, essays, and encouragement drawn from her keen eye and generous heart.
She also offered steadfast companionship to her husband Nathaniel Hawthorne and nurtured their children, creating a warm household that welcomed visiting literary friends; she now rests at Kensal Green Cemetery, remembered for both her artistic achievements and her gracious spirit.
