Biography

Squire Edward Howard (1840–1912) lived through the challenges of the Civil War era and the turn of the century, remaining in Newton where his steadiness and judgment earned him the honorific that recalled New England traditions of civic responsibility.

Though the details of his work may now be known only to family records, those who knew him remembered a thoughtful neighbor whose calm presence was a comforting constant in a rapidly changing world, and he is laid to rest in Newton Cemetery.
