Stanley Hollis
1912–1972 (age 60)
Biography
Stanley Hollis won lasting admiration for his actions on D-Day, where he became the only British soldier awarded the Victoria Cross for his decisive leadership in securing a bridgehead and his refusal to let the enemy regain ground.
He continued to serve with distinction, and today the quiet pathways of Acklam Cemetery and Teesside Crematorium are a place for families to honour the resolute bravery he showed in 1944.
