Biography
Stéphane Gsell, professor born in 1864, devoted himself to teaching and research in archaeology, bringing to life the ancient world for generations of students and writing works that highlighted the imprint of Rome across Gaul and the Mediterranean.
He encouraged field research, supported local museums, and remained a fixture of scholarly gatherings until he was laid to rest at the Longs-Réages cemetery, a place of quiet reflection near those he inspired.
