Stephen Timoshenko, the Ukrainian-American engineer often called the father of modern engineering mechanics, trained generations of students at institutions across the United States and Europe while writing seminal textbooks that distilled the behavior of beams, plates, and shells.
His lucid explanations and insistence on rigorous analysis made his works beloved references in classrooms, and the principles he championed continue to guide designers and researchers remembered at Alta Mesa Memorial Park.
