Susan Catherine Koerner Wright

Biography

Susan Catherine Koerner was born in 1831 in the mountains of Virginia and married Milton Wright, with whom she raised seven children and instilled in them a curiosity about mechanics and learning while tending to the home and taking work as a seamstress.

Her gentle intelligence and encouragement of her sons' experiments left an indelible impact on Wilbur and Orville, and although she died in 1889 before seeing the great success that followed, her influence remained a guiding force in their lives.
