Biography
Susan Wissler broke new ground as the first woman elected mayor in Wyoming history, guiding Cody through the early 1910s with practical determination and a deep concern for public order. Before assuming office she had been active in local civic life, and as mayor she worked to improve sanitation, strengthen education, and keep the town welcoming to visitors and residents alike.
Even after leaving municipal office she remained a symbol of civic courage, and her legacy endures in the stories that visitors share as they visit Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
