Biography
Takashima Yūan (1821–1868) was a Kampo physician who practiced traditional Japanese medicine during a period of significant medical and social transformation. His expertise in Kampo healing arts served his community through decades of change and modernization.
His burial at Hōon-ji Temple reflects his respected position in society. Yūan's life represents the important continuity of traditional medical practice even as Japan underwent rapid modernization during the Meiji Restoration.
