Biography
Ted Tanouye answered his country’s call in World War II as an officer with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the storied unit of Japanese American soldiers. In the Philippines he displayed extraordinary courage under fire, leading men through difficult terrain while pressing toward objective lines.
His actions cost him his life in 1944, yet they also inspired fellow soldiers and the broader community, as Tanouye posthumously received the Medal of Honor for selfless leadership. Today his memory stands as a powerful reminder of the loyalty and sacrifice of Nisei servicemen.
