Temple Lushington Moore

1856–1920 (age 64)

Biography

Temple Lushington Moore became one of the foremost ecclesiastical architects of his age, a pupil of George Frederick Bodley who went on to design or restore more than eighty churches with a soft yet reverent Gothic touch. He favoured careful proportions, elegant fittings, and interiors that invited quiet worship, leaving behind masterpieces from the north of England to London.

His commitment to craft extended to every pew, reredos, and window, and the parish of St John-at-Hampstead marks him with gratitude for the sacred spaces he helped to fashion; his passing in 1920 was mourned as a loss to the wider communion of Anglican worship.
