Biography
Thomas Creswick studied at the Birmingham School of Design and later worked in London, becoming a Royal Academician who excelled in pastoral landscapes and illustrations for travel books. His works often depicted idyllic English countryside scenes with luminous skies and detailed foliage keyed to the ideals of the Romantic movement.
Collectors admired his delicate handling of light, and he influenced a generation of artists drawn to the English landscape school; his art remains a gentle reminder of the tranquil settings he celebrated, and he lies in Kensal Green Cemetery.
