Thomas Cumming

Biography

Thomas Cumming was born in 1765 and lived through the American Revolution and the formative years of the young republic. His sixty-nine years witnessed tremendous change in the nation, from colonial times through the early decades of American independence.

Though specific details of his life and work are not extensively documented, Cumming's long tenure in his community reflects the stability and continuity provided by early American citizens. He was laid to rest in Summerville Cemetery, where his legacy remains part of the local historical record.
