Biography

Thomas Eakins (1844-1916) was a visionary painter and sculptor whose exacting realism and devotion to anatomical study reshaped American art and education. He taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, championed the truthful depiction of the human figure, and inspired generations of artists to observe light, motion, and humanity with equal rigor.

Throughout his life he pursued a deeply personal dialogue between science and creativity, leaving an enduring legacy in the galleries and classrooms that followed his example, and resting now in The Woodlands.
