Biography

Thomas Gordon Hake devoted himself to lyrical writing and prose that reflected the sensitivities of the mid-nineteenth century, moving fluently between pastoral imagery and more philosophical musings as he chronicled the hopes and anxieties of his age.

Beloved by peers for his gentle presence, he continued to compose and encourage younger poets until the end of his long life, leaving behind a record of kindness and artistry at Highgate Cemetery where he now rests.
