Biography

Thomas Hewitt Key was a classical scholar whose passion for ancient languages helped shape the study of Greek and Latin in the early nineteenth century. He combined rigorous philological analysis with a gift for teaching, encouraging generations of students to appreciate the precision and beauty of classical literature.

He also championed the value of comparative linguistics, leaving a legacy that continued to inform scholarship after his passing, and his grave at Highgate Cemetery recalls a life devoted to the humanities.
