Thomas Lanier Williams was a Nashville resident whose life spanned from 1786 to 1856, a period of seventy years encompassing the early republic and the antebellum era. He was part of Nashville's founding generation and witnessed the city's growth into prominence.

Williams lived through transformative decades in American history and was among those who established Nashville's civic and social institutions. He was laid to rest in Nashville City Cemetery, where his memory is preserved as part of the city's pioneer heritage.
