Biography

Thomas Legate Jr. (1763–1807) lived during the Revolutionary War and the early years of American independence. Though his life was cut short at forty-four, he lived through one of the most significant periods in the nation's history, a time of independence, constitutional development, and early growth.

Legate's memory is preserved at Pine Grove Cemetery. His relatively brief life nonetheless occurred during years of tremendous historical importance, and he represents a generation that helped establish the foundations of the American republic.
