Biography

Thomas MacDonald Patterson came to Colorado from Indiana, where his work as a journalist and editor gave him a clear view of public needs; he founded and led prominent newspapers, keeping citizens informed and engaged. That same spirit guided his service in the U.S. House and Senate, where he advanced irrigation, public lands, and fair railroad practices.

Even after leaving national office he supported education and civic institutions, ensuring the state he loved would prosper, and his memory now rests at Fairmount Cemetery.
