Thomas Pelham, 1st Earl of Chichester

1728–1805 (age 77)

Biography

Thomas Pelham, 1st Earl of Chichester, born in 1728, carried the burdens of high office with grace, offering counsel in Parliament and protecting Sussex interests with the unhurried dignity expected of an earl.

He kept a close watch on the fortunes of All Saints in Laughton, using his influence to fund repairs and to support the school attached to the church so that the parish remained a centre of learning and devotion.
