Biography
Thomas Say, long associated with the New Harmony community, helped establish the Academy of Natural Sciences and took part in western expeditions that made him one of the first Americans to systematically describe insects and shells.
He published the seminal American Entomology and American Conchology, training apprentices, mentoring young collectors, and leaving on record a patient classification that has guided naturalists for generations.
