Biography

Thomas T. Munford, born in 1831, answered the call to serve as a cavalry officer during the Civil War and later returned to Lynchburg as the region sought to rebuild. He devoted himself to applying the same discipline he learned in uniform to run his family affairs, teach young men, and support educational causes.

He welcomed veterans and neighbors into conversations about the future, believing that honest dialogue and shared labor could bridge old wounds. Lynchburg remembers him as a thoughtful leader who continued to lift his community until the end of his days.
