Thomas Y. Howe, Jr., born in 1801 in Auburn, New York, built a career as a merchant and banker before serving in Congress from 1851 to 1853, where he advocated for commerce and education in his home state.

After retiring from public life he remained committed to his community, and Fort Hill Cemetery is now the place where relatives and neighbors remember his contributions.
