Thomson J. Skinner

Biography

Thomson J. Skinner, born in 1752, came of age during the Revolution and answered the call to serve both as a militia officer and as a lawmaker in the emerging state government. His experience in Massachusetts' councils and later in the United States Congress enabled him to carry the concerns of his fellow citizens into the wider debates of the new republic.

Revered for his practical wisdom and steady temper, he remained a balancing presence between local priorities and national responsibilities until his passing and laid down a legacy of civic-minded leadership now recalled at Westlawn Cemetery.
