Biography
Thorleif Haug, born in 1894, rose from a farm by the Drammen River to become one of Norway's first winter sports heroes, claiming three individual gold medals in cross-country skiing and ski jumping at the inaugural Winter Olympic Games in Chamonix in 1924. His extraordinary stamina and fearless style kept him near the top of both national and international competitions for years.
After his competitive peak he shared his knowledge with younger athletes, helping organize events around Drammen and encouraging the development of youth ski clubs, and his name remained synonymous with Norwegian skiing excellence until his passing in 1934. His grave at Bragernes Cemetery remains a place of homage for fans of the sport.
