Titus Salt was a prominent English businessperson and philanthropist from West Yorkshire who revolutionized the textile industry during the Industrial Revolution. Born in 1803, Salt built a successful alpaca wool manufacturing business that made him one of the wealthiest industrialists of his era. Beyond his commercial achievements, he became renowned for his progressive approach to business and his commitment to improving the lives of his workers.
Salt's most enduring legacy is the model industrial village of Saltaire, which he founded in 1851 near Shipley in West Yorkshire. This pioneering settlement provided workers with quality housing, schools, a hospital, and recreational facilities—revolutionary concepts for the time.
