Biography
Tokugawa Harutoshi (1773–1816) was a samurai whose service and loyalty exemplified the values of the warrior class during the stable later years of the Edo period. His forty-three years of life were marked by dedication to martial virtue and the responsibilities incumbent upon members of the samurai elite, particularly those connected to the ruling Tokugawa family.
Harutoshi's position within the Tokugawa clan reflected his importance and the trust placed in him by his superiors. His burial at Zuiryūsan honors his memory and his service to the shogunate during a period when the samurai class maintained its cultural and political significance in Japanese society.
